‘Just Worship!’ a Shetland Church initiative. "It's about people and places; it’s about fellowship and togetherness, about worshiping God and lifting up the name of Jesus" Well that was certainly how it started out. It began first of all with a couple of people having similar visions; to go and outreach into the more rural areas of Shetland. One had the desire to go out to the country Churches and just fellowship with people, to encourage them and show them that we care whereas the other felt a need to go and share with testimony and worship, the combination of the two then became affectionately known as ‘da peerie kirks’.
This concept was welcomed by the Methodist Church as well as the Church of Scotland in the north of the Island and as a result it has become a regular slot in the calendar with many visits already having taken place and many more planned. Because of that we felt that it might be useful, as well as fun, to do a report on our excursions and after a lot of thought on the subject, and much prayer, it was decided to try and set up a site. This site had originally started as a ‘Blog’ but before it even got off the ground, with only one page being produced on-line, it was realized that it would need to be a lot more. It soon became plain to see that this idea had so much potential, that there was a need for something like this in Shetland and so it has become what you now see.
This site has been set up with the hope that we will be able to provide you with, not only an up-to-date account of what we are doing (da peerie kirks), but more importantly, what other Christians and Christian organizations are doing. It is primarily to be a source of information which we hope will be useful to Christians the length and breadth of the Island as well as non-believers (pre-Christians) who would like to find out more. This site is open to all denominations and all are encouraged to participate into it, your suggestions and input are invaluable to its success so please make the best use of it that you can.
Thankyou and enjoy!
